A multiple question about conjunction

Hi:

Please kindly advise the answer to the following multiple question and explain why. Thanks very much!

Question

I went back outside,I could see by the light from the hotel and _________ (find) the cabin easily.
A.find B.found

I chose "find" because of the conjunction "and",so for "find" we should also use the original form like "see", not the past tense found. That is my reasoning, but the anwser is B "found". So please help explain. Thanks!

"I went back outside. I could see by the light from the hotel and __ the cabin easily."

To me, "find" is possible but not particularly natural; it would mean that "I could" governs both clauses (I could see ... and I could find).

"found" seems more likely. It means that "I" (not "I could") govern

"found" because the sentence is past tense. It can be reworded "I went back outside. I was able to see by the light from the hotel and found the cabin easily."
