A multiple choice question, please.

Who has the copies of the report?

a) I copied it last night.

b) Sam can make copies for us.

c) I sent copies to everyone in our department.

The correct answer is c). I wonder why a) can't be the answer.

Please advise. Thanks.

well.. A) could make the assumption that you merely have one paper (or whatever it was) that you copied, and not have other copies. C) is Plural (copIES) and the sentence states that, in fact, you DID send COPIES to everyone.

(C) tells us that everyone in the department has a copy of the report. (A) doesn't tell us who has a copy.

I suppose that from (a) we know that I have at least one copy of the report, but in any case (c) is definitely the correct answer.
