A mother recites,

A mother recites, "Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall ..." Sitting on her lap, her son joins in to complete the rhyme.

I doubt if I could replace recites in the above utterance with narrates/relates/recounts/rehearse/review/repeat, which are synonymous with recites according to my dictionary. Your advice, please. Thanks.
