a monopoly/medical therapies ?

A few doctors assert that herbs are potentially harmful, but doctors are always trying to maintain a monopoly over medical therapies.

What does it mean " to maintain a monopoly " ?

What does it mean " medical therapies " ? Does they mean " drugs " ?

Thanks

monopoly - to be the only supplier of something. I think they mean medical treatments in a wider sense than just drugs.

When a businesss entity has the monoploy on a product, is has the control of pricing. In other words, they dictate the market. The synonym for monpoly is anti-trust. Does that answer your question?

Medical theropy is a vauge label that may cover medicinal and other theropeutic practices. Often time, the name is selected relatively vaugely to avoid legality problems.
