The Composition

Governing bodies made the decision to remove the Aboriginal people from their homeland in order to establish new settlements. As soon as the Aboriginal Protection Acts were introduced, the Chief Protector had the ability to control the Aboriginal People.

The government had reached the decision about establishing missions for Aboriginal children. Those missions' purpose was to provide education for the children. In addition, its tendency was to convert them to Christianity.Nevertheless the missions were intended to supply a better life and education, it virtually caused a loss of family ties and a cultural breakdown.Christianity prevented them from taking part in a traditional life style. Those missions caused the Aboriginal people to lose most of their cultural legacy and languages. Commonly, missions were overcrowded and different Aboriginal groups indiscriminately assorted together. In some missions, the children were taken away from their families and placed in dormitories as slaves.

Comparably, Aboriginal people who lived on reserves had no rights at all. They couldn't leave the reserve without the white administrator's permissibility. Besides, the Chief Protector owned all the property they had and he was made legal guardian of all Aboriginal Children. Consequently, children could be taken away from their parents and placed in institutions such as mission-schools or they were taken to work as slaves. Initial reserves were very basic. The conditions were humble and many Aboriginal families had a difficultly to deal with.

The Aboriginal population increasingly began to decline, due to the loss of traditional lands and the presence of the Europeans. Since many elders were consistently dying, traditions were lost. The missions' managers tried to impose their own traditions and Christianity onto the Aboriginal people. In 1885, the Aboriginal people won a ten years political battle, which eventually accomplished financial success and became independent. The authorities attempted to close the reserves rather than support and encourage the Aboriginal people. As a result, they attempted to prevent the reserve from shutting-down. Unfortunately, their effort was in vain, and the land was sold and they were sent to other reserves or left cope by themselves.

Thanks!!!!
