a mile past?

Hi! everyone.
Could you tell me whether my understanding of this sentence correct?
Turn right a mile past the graveyard and you'll see the church.
I think it means when I will turn right, I will see a graveyard and between the graveyard and church, there is a distance of 1 mile.
Or does it mean I will have to walk a mile before I get to the graveyard?
Thanks!

I understand it to mean that you travel for a mile beyond the graveyard, then you turn right and you see the church.

Thanks! GPY.
So, is there any other possible meaning than the one you understood?
