a lot / very much

Hi, which of these sentencis more correct? Why? I prefer the second sentence, but I'm not sure why.

I play very much with my cousin.
I play a lot with my cousin.

You can say: I play too much with my cousin. (this means that you spend more time playing than you should ) I play a lot with my cousin.
