A lot of this or these?

Hi. Is it correct to use the phrase "a lot of this" in this context, in addition to "a lot of these"? I think the use of "a lot is these" is correct here. Please see the underlined part. Thank you in advance for your help.

There were book-signing tours, personal promotions and interviews, and a lot of this was done to get public recognition.
