A lot of sport(s)

Hello everybody!

What's the difference between the following sentences?

1. I play a lot of sport.
2. I play a lot of sports.

Sports means different sports like football, tenis, volleyball and so on. Sport in the first sentence is singular, does it have the same meaning as in the second one?

Thanks in advance!
