A lot of attention has been focused - help to paraphrase!

"A lot of attention has recently been focused on the role of extra nucleons and their influence on the structure of the states".

Could you please advise on how I can paraphrase "a lot of attention has recently been focused on something". Is there a better way of constructing this sentence? Thank you!
