(a) living proof

Bill Gates is (a) living proof that hard work can lead to success.

Hi,

Is it right to insert "a" before living proof in the above? If not, would you explain why? Thanks.

No article. The reason is because "proof" is being used as a generality, not a specific instance. Best regards, A- s

LIving has nothing to do with the article in the original question. The noun is proof, which doesn't take the indefinite article (a).
