Can I say,

(a) They watched a (national ) parade live on TV.

(b) They saw / watched a live parade on the television.

Both express kind of the same thing.
(a) means that you saw it live.
(b) means it was live.

Not idiomatic. It implies they could also watch a dead parade, which is rather bizarre I think.
