A little sozzled

Hi

I came across this in an Indian novel today.

He is always a little sozzled by the time he goes to bed.

Is the underlined phrase natural -- I mean, sozzled is almost non-gradable, meaning very drunk? Would you say a little sozzled works naturally?

Hi

I think that works OK and I would say the adjective is gradable. 'He was a little sozzled' / 'He was quite sozzled' / 'He was completely sozzled'.
