A little or a little bit - before adjective

Hi. I think the word "bit" is a noun. Is it correct? Could we use the phrase "a little bit" before an adjective like "scared"? If we could, what would be the difference between "a little bit scared" and "a little scared"? Possibly, is there a difference in degree, one is a little less or more scared than the other?

Please help.
