A little late

I know it's a little late, but could you drive me there?

What does "it's a little late" mean here? That it's late as in evening eg. or that the one asking needs to be "there" very soon so it's a last minute thing?

It could mean a number of things.


The request might be late (e.g. instead of asking a week in advance, they ask you an hour before.)
It might be late in the evening, too close to your normal bed time.
