A little help please

Hey everyone,

I hope you are all well.

I have a couple of sentences/claused I'm a little unsure. I've highlighted the word I'm a little puzzled by.

Thanks,

Rob

"I was shocked at the lack manners and preparation that WAS shown by the interviewers"
(Why have I used was? I'm treating manners and preparation as one thing. Am I right?)

"I find it highly unlikely that the majority of successful candidates WERE more qualified than myself"
(I know the word majority is key here, but using was just doesn't seem right. Am I correct?)
