A listening trouble

I am trying to make a text transcription of the audio from the New England Journal of Medicine video clip entitled From Rough to Refined the Rise of Surgery. The video may be seen in You Tube web site
, I am struggling to understand what is said by Dr Danny Jacobs about Josef Lister’s ideas regarding the aspersion of carbolic acid over surgeons hands and operation fields, precisely between times 06:46 and 06:51 of the track. It’s just a 5 seconds talk which is completely incomprehensible to me. Could some help to understand what is said?
Thanks
