A largely . . .

Dear English speakers,

"This conflict has two belligerents: a largely Muslim North and a mostly Christian south."

I can't make up my mind. Is the indefinite "a" article acceptable or is only "the" correct (I am not asking which is better, but if either one is a mistake)?

Thanks!

Gudrun ... if either one is a mistake Neither is a mistake. Both "the" and "a" will work.
