a landslide victory

He led the opposition party to a landslide victory.

Is it possible that the above mean the opposition party achieved a hictoric record but not neccessarily won the election?

Thanks

Top answer

He won, by a lot, not necessarily a record. If he lost, he may only have won a "moral victory".

I don't think so. Landslide victory means that he won.
