2) chick = young girl?

3) The Dixie Cups =?

(A dixie cup refers to a disposable cup made of paper; for holding drinks. But what does the Dixie Cups refer to? A competition?)

Context:

There was also a trio of "chick singers," a la the Dixie Cups, made of (usually) Kathi, Tad Bartimus, and Amy Tan.

I believe that at one time Amy Tan and Stephen King were in a band with some other writers (maybe Dave Barry?). It was called, if I remember correctly, the Rock-Bottom Remainders. Maybe the "Dixie Cups" were the back-up singers?
