A headphone? One of his headphones?

Hi teachers,
One boy is listening to some music on the radio with his headphones/earphones.
Then, there's a song that his friend next to him also likes.
What should I say?
a) He passes/hands a headphone/earphone to her to listen to the music.
b) He passes/hands one of his headphones/earphones to her to listen to the music.

Thanks in advance.

A headphone can be shared, as it has two earpieces.

Hi,
Thanks! 'Earphones' sound better. I assume that they are smaller and for the inside part of the ear, while headphones, sound bigger to me and are to be placed on the ear, but not in.

Hi YL,
That's also true. Though they are bigger than 'earphones'.

Where I live, nowadays, headphones have two earpieces. I think it is also common in other countries. However, the headphones are not so bulky.

Hi,
Depends on which ones; some are and some aren't.

I have not seen headphones with one earpiece. Where I live, I think they are outdated.
