A Half human, half robot

Hi,

Do need 'a' before the following:

It's [a] half human, half robot.

This machine is [a] half car, half boat. (I know this one sounds silly)

And do I need to put hyphens after the word 'half' --> half-human, half-robot?

Thanks!

I think the military invented just such a useful contraption. It is called an amphibious vehicle.

Hyphens are suggested, but not required.
