Thank you Alphecca.

What do you mean by that?

And if there were more than one shooting, can I say shootings?

And if all these are ok, how about the water shooting from a fountain? Do you call them water shootings?

the fountain has no water shootings at the mome

Hi. I'm sure we can say and write "We had Bible reading today," with the word "Bible" modifying the noun "reading." If it's so, how can't we have the word "gun" modifying the noun "shooting" in the sentence "There was a gun shooting"? Here, I don't mean the "gun" doing anything.

Also, I'm sorry, but could you tell me which is correct? Thank you in advance for your help.

You can, but the word "shooting" already implies a gun, so it's really a waste of time to add "gun". It's like saying that you have a pet cat animal. Cats are animals, so it's silly to add "animal".

I would add "session" or "class" or "meeting" or some other noun like that in the second one. Otherwise, all OK.

Anonymous Why can't we have the word "gun" modifying the noun "shooting" in the sentence "There was a gun shooting"?
Because when we make the phrase "X shooting" with X as a modifier (not the participle "shooting" as a post-position modifier), X is most often the target.
