Hello there,
I have learned with the verbs of perception, there should be an adjective used not an adverb. But please read the following sentence by K. M. Langdon from “Unsealed: An Unconventional Story of Love, Passion and Friendship.”
She looked happily out the window, welcoming the warm air and hot sun on her face, and at the palm trees and sidewalks full of athletic people running, skateboarding, and casually hanging out with friends.
How come the author used an adverb “happily” after the verb of perception, “looked?”
Many thanks!
cestsibon She looked happily out the window... ” Because 'look' is not a verb of perception but an action verb there. She looked happily at me = She looked in a happy manner (action verb) She looked happy to me = She seemed happy (linking verb)
