Dear all,

I have a question about how I can explian the asnwer (c) in terms of grammar rule for the following question. I knew (c) is the answer. But I don't konw why gerund " fishing" is used here. Thank you for your explanation.

The penguines have been in the water all day _____ for their young.

a: and acught fish

b: catch

c: fishing

d: so that fish
