A grammar question about those and these

Hi all!

I've recently saw a question as below in my textbook.

<We should respect our parents and teachers, for _____ give us life and love, and _____ educate and inspire us.>

(A)the one ... the other(B)those ... these(C) that ... this(D) the ones...the others

The answer given in the textbook is B.

Isn't the question supposed to be <We should respect our parents and teachers, for _____ giving us life and love, and _____ educating and inspiring us.>

Also, I am uncertain if the answer given is right or wrong.

Thanks for all your kindly reply in advance!
