a good student and athelete

Hi,

Should it be

He is a good student and athlete.
or
He is a good student and a good athlete.

I think it is the first one, but there are TWO things following "a."
Can you tell which is correct and WHY?

Thank you.

Both are grammatically correct, but I would use the second one just to be sure, because 'student' and 'athlete' involve completely different skills. CJ
