a go-ahead OR the go-ahead

Hi,

We will do that as soon as we get a go-ahead from our superiors

We will do that as soon as we get the go-ahead from our superiors

It looks like most people prefer to use the definite article in such cases ... and only a minority of people use the indefinite article in similar contexts (regardless of the fact that "go-head" has not been mentioned by the speaker before!)

Could you please comment on this "dilemma"?

Thank you so much!
