[a gesture of appreciation] or [a gesture of my appreciation]

(1) Thank you for all your help. Please accept this gift basket as a gesture of appreciation.

(2) Thank you for all your help. Please accept this gift basket as a gesture of my appreciation.

Most of my non-native English speaking friends think (1) is correct. I am not sure why (2) is wrong. Which one really is correct: with or without "my"? Thank you.
