A gerund or full infinitive

We come across sentences where there are gerunds used instead of full infinitives as in:

I like going ...

I forgot telling ...

Apart from the reason why we should use this form (rather than infinitives), I'd like to know that, for what verbs can we use a gerund instead of a full infinitive?
