A Gap Year

It is becoming increasingly popular to have a year off between finishing school and going to university. What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Before joining higher education, most students today opt for a gap year to experience and challenge themselves in new environments. Given the fact that this trend has numerous benefits, I claim that it also has drawbacks.

First of all, it is beneficial for students, especially those who get struggle to choose their favorite fields, to have a sabbatical year since they need to attend clubs, work full-time, travel, volunteer or do something they are bad at to get better. Thereby, students will gain the necessary skills and gradually discover their talents and subjects they are interested in during the year meeting people, going to various places and accomplishing tasks under pressure. As a result, by the time they finish this, they will have found what they like and know how to use skills into reality. Second of all, they can earn money from selling goods online, working at a coffee shop or teaching kids which makes it easier for them to get into university as their salary can be utilized to pay for tuition fees. Therefore, this is such a distinct advantage for poor students which helps them to escape from bad financial statuses.

Otherwise, a year off stands to spoil one’s life. As people have to get involved with practical works, they will forget indispensable academic knowledge learned in schools. Hence people have to study everything again to pass entrance exams which takes time to review. Another noticeable point is that they tend to be on their own which, sometimes, is the cause of loneliness, depression, and sadness because they do not have anyone to confide to when they have problems. For instance, my cousin had worked for a Japanese within one year before attending further education years ago. She had so many difficulties there, from being underrated, overlooked for a manager position to having valuables stolen at home. It was demanding for her to overcome the problems herself without anybody’s help that she was upset for a long time.

To conclude, this tendency includes all the pros and cons. Individuals will have a necessity for academic life and solve financial problems. However, they will have to revise time-consuming theories and suffer from many troubles.

Please help me out with this! Thank you!!!!
