'A fragrance pass by' is this alright to say?

I'm trying to write a note about how we store our memories with music and smells. Please find it below and let me know if something is wrong with it.

"Isn't this amazing how our memories are stored in a piece of music or fragrance. And whenever we hear that music in future or a smell passes by our nose, it brings back so many memories associated with it"

Isn't it amazing how we store our memories of a piece of music or a fragrance so that whenever we hear that music or smell that fragrance in the future, it brings back the memories associated with it?

This is definitely better but i've got a question. Why did you use "of a piece" shouldn't it be "in a piece" ? Please help me understand this.

We store our memories of things in our brains/minds.

If you remember a song, you have a [memory of that song] in your mind.
There is no memory stored in the song. The song has no brain where it can store the memory.

In your example, "in our minds" is simply left out of the sentence because it is so obvious that we store memories there.
