A force to reckon with

Hi

Is the underlined part natural English?

BDA = a retired wrestler

James thought he would easily take on BDA, but the later was still a force to reckon with.

Thanks,

Tom

I would use "to be reckoned with" instead of "to reckon with". Also, you need "latter" not "later" in the above.
