A few questions

Is it correct to say:

1. Samantha does not want to come between he and his mother.

Should he be him?

2. She loved Dannielle as if she were her own daughter.

Should were be changed to was?

3. And what does this mean:

She took yet another step.

How is yet used in the sentence and can you give me some examples?
