A few in a question

I know the general difference between "a few" and "few" but I'm not sure which one I should used in the following question:

"John, are you OK with us investigating this problem for (a couple, max 1-2) more hours?"

Should I use:

1. "John, are you OK with us investigating this problem for few more hours?" OR

2. "John, are you OK with us investigating this problem for a few more hours?"

What is the difference in meaning?
