Would you use plural or singular in the following clause:

I don't think a few days on the road is/are going to turn my life upside down.

I don't want to be difficult here, but just to get things straight:

Couldn't it be argued that "a few days on the road" represents a singular subject and therefore should be followed by 'is'?
