A few corrections 7

Can I say,


(a) John was studying his homework.


(b) Suddenly, the light went out. It was dark.

(c) The light flickered for a while. Suddenly, it / there was blackout.
His house was dark and John was frightened.

In addition to the correction above:
He was studying.
or
He was doing his homework.

NOT He was studying his homework.

"for awhile" sure looks wrong to me. "awhile" is an adverb.

Your original version, "The light flickered for a while", is OK.
