A fairly short

1) This was to be done in a fairly short, two-year period.
2) This was done by a very tall, six-foot-five man.

The first one seems natural to me. I have doubts about the second one. Do you find it natural?

The problem is that 'fairly short' and 'very tall' do not really modify 'two-year period' and 'six-foot-five man'. They give us no extra information about them and do not function as normal adjectives.

'1' is saying: This was to be done a two-year period, and that is a short period.

We have some kind of apposition here.

Gratefully,
Navi.

The poet Edith Sitwell was often bothered by young poets who wanted her to read their work. One of them asked if she would just please look at a little sonnet he had written. She later remarked what an usual request that was, since all sonnets are the same length by definition—fourteen lines.
