A English Sentence without Subject?

Hey guys, could you please tell me whether this sentence is correct or not?

Example: “Actually Old Mistress knows very well. Purposely pretends she doesn't, orders her around and tortures her in little ways, just so that she can't smoke her fill.” (Eileen Chang, 1967:4)

I am quite confused about "Purposely pretends....bla bla bla" , since I thought it has no subject in this sentence.
