It would be an email, and we say an 'i?me?l, or, written another way, ee-mayel.

I do not know how people pronounce a email in the States.

If you wanted to say a email it would be ay (Rhymes with day, say, etc.) ee-mail. The links I gave both have speakers with British accents, but the pronunciation is the same in the States. See:
