Vocabulary

a dodgy company

Can a company/organization be called "dodgy" or "shady"?

Jack: How is Jim? What is he doing?
Merry: He's fine, but he is working for some dodgy/shady company that I don't know much about.

Can the things mentioned above be called dodgy or shady? Which one sounds more natural?

Yes. It means they are doing something illegal or close to illegal. I think this is primarily British slang.

Does that mean that "shady" is used more frequently in North American English? Their meanings seem to be more or less the same. At least to me.

In N.America, in my experience 'shady' is more common than 'dodgy'.
