a deluge of emails

Michael had to read a deluge of emails when he returned to work after his vacation.

Hi,

I think "a deluge of emails" refer to "tons of emails," but I wonder if it sounds good to say "a torrent of emails" instead. Thanks.

Both deluge and torrent rather imply the e-mails are all coming now. Tons of e-mails in your inbox when you come bck from vacation makes sense.
