but i saw this sentence in the book "up from slavery"
"the sight of the new building made it a day of Thanksgiving for them to be unforgotten."
That is why i made the previous sentence with a day.

Actually, i don't understand what this sentence means, could you explain for me?
Shouldn't it be "the sight of the new building made it a day of Thanksgiving for them to
