A couple questions related to quotes and punctuation.

Sally to Sue: Did you go to the supermarket?

(Later)
Bill: What did Sally ask you?
Sue: She said, did I go to the supermarket.

Later, when she answers Bill, which way should it be written?

She said, did I go to the supermarket.
She said, did I go to the supermarket?
She said, "Did I go to the supermarket?"
(This one doesn't seem right.)

Bill: How quickly did she speak?
Sue: She said "did you go to the supermarket" too quickly.

Should it be:

She said "did you go to the supermarket" too quickly.
She said "Did you go to the supermarket"
too quickly.
or
She said, "Did you go to the supermarket," too quickly. (This seems to be incorrect. I don't think there should be a comma between the quote and "too quickly.")

Thanks.

Thanks for replying. That's not quite what I meant. I was asking what the best way is to write these sentences if someone did say them this way. I proofread transcripts of question/answer sessions, so I cannot change the words they say.

Thanks.

Hi,
Oh, I see . I'll try again.

Sally to Sue: Did you go to the supermarket?

(Later)
Bill: What did Sally ask you?
Sue: She said, did I go to the supermarket.

Sue: She said, "Did I go to the supermarket?" Sue's response is not really correct but, since these are her words, this is how I would transcribe them.

Bill: How q
