A connecticut yankee in King Arthur's court

Hi,

Another excerpt from Mark Twain.....

The underlined part.... Does it mean that (A) "To be with \him gave me some rest, or I felt it easy to be with him"

Or does it mena that (B) "Those who were with him kept silence"?

** *** ***

It was in Warwick Castle that I came across the curious stranger

whom I am going to talk about. He attracted me by three things:

his candid simplicity, his marvelous familiarity with ancient armor,

and the restfulness of his company--for he did all the talking.

We fell together, as modest people will, in the tail of the herd

that was being shown through, and he at once began to say things

which interested me.

Consider that having a conversation requires some effort on the part of each person involved in the conversation. The stranger was judged 'restful' because he saved the author the effort of keeping up his (the author's) side of the conversation. The author is being somewhat playful in making this observation.

Thanks so much, Calif!!

I see....

A Korean translator tranlated that way, that those in his company kept silence, which translation I could not agree on.

Happy to be confirmed of(or on?) my understanding.
