Hello, everyone. I have been studying English for a long time now, but today I got really puzzled with a sudden question from my colleague. We started discussing a more grammatically correct way of expressing your regret about a person’s situation.
My question is. What phrase sounds more coherent and how do they differ from each other.
“I am sorry you had to go through this”
and
“I am sorry you had got to go through this”
*note. We are talking of something that happened more than few years already
