hello there,
I have faced a confusing sentence from a textbook when preparing my mid-term. Can someone help me to figure out how to change this sentence by using inversion??
Elk that live close to the town of Mammoth Hot Springs do not flee until crosscountry skiers get within fifty feet.
->could be changed into:
1. Not until cross-country skiers get within fifty feet do elk that live close to the town of Mammoth Hot Springs flee.
or
2. Not until cross-country skiers get withing fifty feet do elk that live close to the town of Mammoth Hot Springs not flee.
I think no.1 is correct but the answer from the book is written no.2 is correct : (
These are OK. Inverted: Not until cross-country skiers get within fifty fee t of them , do elk that live close to the town of Mammoth Hot Springs flee. Only when cross-country skiers get within fifty feet of them , do elk that live close to the town of Mammoth Hot Springs flee.
