A compound sentence

0 "Only when a system possesses natural or artificial boundaries that associate the water within it 01i00 the hydrologic cycle 02i00 may the entire system properly be termed hydrogeologic." 02br
02br
00I am trying to split this compound sentence into three simple sentences like these, 02br
02br
001, A system possesses natural or artificial boundaries. 02br
02br
002, boundaries associate the water within it (?). 02br
02br
003, The entire system may properly be termed hydrogeologic. 02br
02br
00Is that right? 02br
02br
00If it's, what happened to '01i00 the hydrologic cycle 02i00'? I hope it would be a typo. 02br
02br
00And what 01i00 it 02i00 in "within it" refers to? 0-

0 You are right abbie1948, the sentence is incorrect. Either "it" has to be omitted or changed to "its"(in this case, the "the" has to be omitted). e.g. 02br
02br
00"Only when a system possesses natural or artificial boundaries that associate the water within ITS hydrologic cycle may the entire system properly be termed hydrogeologic." 0-

0 That sounds more likely, and I think it will make it much easier to convert into shorter sentences, and still reatain the info about the hydrological cycle. (not that I know what that is!) 0-

0 Thanks. I concur with you two. The transcript I got does have some errors. 0-
