A composition in English

Hello, everyone.
I've just discovered this site and I'm very happy to join in.
I'd be very happy if someone can correct this essay.
I'm sure it has a lot of mistakes.
I really hope someone has enough patience to check this.
Thank you!

U.S. presidential elections are held every four years. The election day is decided on the first Tuesday in November.
The reason why the election day was chosen on November is that farmers would finish their harvests and besides that it would be before snowing much. The reason why Tuesday was selected is that many years ago for some people it took about one day to go to a place to vote, so Monday was rejected because some people could not participate Sunday services.
The president of the United States is elected by the electoral college, not elected directly by the population. Each state has electoral college of each party, number of which seems to be decided based on its population. But even a small state, there are three electral colleges.
The feature of the U.S. presidential election is a system "winner takes all". A candidate who wins in a state can take all the number of electoral colleges of his party. For examle, a candidate, who lost in a state , even though he got 49.9 percent of voting, can not take any one of electoralcolleges. California state has 55 electoral colleges and Texas state has 34 electoral colleges and New York state has 31. Winning in those states is very effective in the race.
But this system causes complicated result. In the U.S. presidential election of four years ago, even though Bush lost total number of voting in the country, he could take more than half of electoral colleges and became the U.S. president.
Maine state and Nebraska state do not adopt this system, but other 49 states adopt.
This electorall college system seems to be accepted for a few reasons. One is that the U.S. president should keep independence from the Congress. And others are that direct election was too difficult and founders were afraid that a tyrant could manipulate public opinion.
As I said the above, the U.S. president is selected in directly. but people vote by the name of president and vice president, not by the name of their party. And two candidates campaign across the country to explain their views and plans to voters, and meet voters.
It seems a direct election. That is why Americans are more interested in the presidential selection in comparison with the selection of a prime minister for Japanese.
