Vocabulary

A common or stereotypical name for cows

Bessie may refer to:
A common or stereotypical name for cows (including a Beanie Baby cow produced by Ty, Inc.)
[Wikipedia]

I would have simply written 'A common name for cows'. What further information does "stereotypical" add to the meaning, or what's the purpose of using it there?

Hi, stereotypical - Common and unimaginative. The first thing that people think of when asked about names for cows. Does not consider that cows are often different in appearance and personality.
